Wa Thone
Wathone, also known as U Khin Hla, was a distinguished Burmese artist celebrated for his watercolor and batik paintings. A realist and traditionalist, he studied under masters such as Ba Swe, Ba Yin Gyi, and Lun Gywe. Beginning his career in 1964 with magazine illustrations, he created the renowned comic strip Linkadepa Chitthu. His works were exhibited in Yangon, Seoul (1988), and Philadelphia (1993). A documentary on his life, A Sketch of Wathone, directed by Kyi Phyu Shin, won the Best Shorts Award at the 2008 National Geographic Society’s All Roads Film Festival.
