Ramree Tin Shwe is a Burmese Asian Modern & Contemporary artist who was born in 1960. Ramree Tin Shwe’s work has been offered at auction multiple times. Among the artist’s sold works is “Arakan Ruins”, which realized 4,461 USD at Christie’s Hong Kong in 2018.

Kyaw Kyaw

KYAW KYAW, a Burmese painter, was celebrated for his unique fusion of traditional and contemporary artistic styles. Born in 1968, he embarked on an artistic journey driven by a profound connection to Myanmar’s culture and natural beauty.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1968, KYAW KYAW’s formal education served as a solid foundation for his artistic pursuits. His skills were further refined under the mentorship of distinguished artists, U Thaung Han and U Kyaw Nyunt.

Notably, KYAW KYAW was the grandson of Mee-Bone-Pyan U Kyaw Yin, a renowned Burmese balloonist. This lineage added a rich historical dimension to his artistic heritage.

His contributions to the art world were prominently featured in esteemed publications, including Sanda Magazine, Shwe Thway Journal, and Shei Thou Journal. KYAW KYAW’s passing on July 10, 2021, marked the end of an era, but his legacy continues to celebrate the spirit of Myanmar’s culture and natural beauty, earning him recognition both nationally and internationally.

U Hlaing Bwa, born in 1950 in Yangon, is full-time artist since he studied under the old master U Thein Han in the 1970’s. His bold brush strokes and creative color schemes are reminiscent of the European Impressionist style, with Monet as a significant source of inspiration. His artworks often depict the tranquil Myanmar: the scenic Bagan, colorful Shan State, vibrant market places and solitary women lost in contemplation.

Notably, U Hlaing Bwa frequently portrays his family and neighbors in his art, with his wife, sister-in-law and nieces often serving as subjects. Over the years, he has painted a series of children as his nieces grew up, and he later focused on young ladies in rooms adorned with flowers, which has become one of his signature motifs.

Hlaing Bwa’s work has been exhibited extensively, both in Myanmar and abroad. His paintings were showcased in Myanmar from 1979 to 2000, and internationally in countries like China (1982), Australia (1990), Singapore and Thailand (1995), the USA (2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012) and Indonesia (2007).

His artistic contributions are also recognized in books such as “Myanmar Painting: From Worship to Self-Imaging” (2006) and “Burmese Painting: A Linear and Lateral History” (2009).

U Maung Maung Thike was a Burmese painter, illustrator, and cartoonist. He learned the basics of art from the artist U Kyi and started his art career. He started as a painter in 1965, and worked as an illustrator starting in 1971.

He created a large number of paintings and exhibited many of them. He had his first solo exhibition at the Inya Lake Hotel in 1991, and the second time with the title “Woman”; 11 June to 10 July 2005, at the New York University Art Gallery. He was also presented with the title the Myanmar Dance and Beauty Show at the President’s Hotel from 1975 to 2008.

His third solo exhibition was held at Gallery 65 from 17 to 19 August 2013.

On 5 August 2011, he died at ShweBaho Hospital at 12:30 pm. He was 66 years old at the time of his death.

Famous paintings of  U Marlar

U Marlar was born in 1953 in Nandawkyun Village, Upper Myanmar. A graduate of the State School of Fine Arts, Mandalay, he studied under masters: U Kan Nyunt, U Aye Kyaw, U Kyaw Lay, U Tin Aye, U Zaw Win and U Win Maung. His paintings often focus on historical locations in Myanmar as he has a keen interest in archeological research. The artist spent nine years (1976-1985) working in the Department of Archeology. He later moved to the Soundar School of Textile, where he was an instructor of Art and Design.

His works have a wonderful maturity, serenity, and composure about them, much like his approach to life. Much respected nationally and internationally, his works are in Myanmar National Museum and in collections worldwide. U Marlar’s favorite medium is watercolor, at which he excels. He started using oil in 2006 and these artworks debuted in his solo show entitled, “Irrawaddy Days”.

Win Pe Myint

Win Pe Myint

U Win Pe Myint is an established Burmese painter. In 1970, he graduated from Rangoon Arts and Sciences University with a Botany major. He was extremely interested in painting since childhood. He studied under 4 outstanding art masters: U Lun Gywe, U Shwe Oung Thame, U Paw Oo Thet and U Thein Han (painter). He worked as an art teacher at Regional College – 3 from 1984 to 1986.

U Win Pe Myint is particularly well known for his excellent still life works, although in recent years he has been painting landscapes and portraits. In February 2005, he opened his new studio called True Color and the studio features over a hundred of his paintings.
